Cannex senior financial analyst Harry Senlitonga said that, in recent years, BankWest had been a major innovating force, introducing the lowest-rate credit card and the highest-paying online savings account. "I hope with this merger they will still have that competitive approach," he said. |

Financial services research group CANNEX estimates there are more than 400,000 fixed-rate home loans in the market at present, and almost one in five are less than one year old. "There were 64,000 new fixed-rate loans opened in the first half of this year," CANNEX senior financial analyst Harry Senlitonga said. |
Oct 7, 2008: The RBA has cut the cash rate target to 6.0 per cent, a full 1.0 per cent drop. The reason given by the RBA was that, "an unusually large movement in the cash rate was appropriate in order to bring about a significant reduction in costs to borrowers."
